Introduction Here are some great ways to use this book: Storytelling Tool Copy the Bible story coloring page to use as a visual during storytelling time. As you tell the story, color in parts of the picture to keep children s interest and to help them focus on the part of the story you are telling. Felt Board Figures Glue a colored Bible story coloring page to poster board. Cut out the main characters and then glue strips of felt to the backs of the characters. Use them with a felt board to give visual impact to your Bible storytelling. Story Review Copy a coloring page for each student. After telling the story, ask questions to review the story as children color. Review for Early Arrivals and Transition Times Copy coloring pages of Bible stories you have recently talked about. Early arrivals can have a choice of pictures to color, giving you opportunities to ask questions and talk with children about those stories. Also have copies available for children who finish an activity quickly and for other transition times. Coloring Game After you ve told the Bible story, distribute copies of the Bible story coloring page. Have a volunteer tell a part of the Bible story. Children then color that part of the page. When they re finished, have a volunteer tell another part of the story. Children then color that part of the page. Repeat the process until the pages (and story!) are completed. Concentration Game Copy a set of two pictures of each story you have talked about recently. Invite volunteers to color each set alike. Then place the pictures facedown on the floor. Children take turns turning over two pictures at a time, trying to find two matching pictures. Play continues until all picture sets have been paired. Guessing Game Color (or invite volunteers to color) five or more coloring pages of Bible stories that kids have recently studied. Display the completed pictures. Give three clues for a story. Children try to guess which story you re describing. For example, for Jesus is born, you could say, I m thinking of a happy night. I m thinking of some good news that some people heard. I m thinking of a very special baby. 8 David C Cook. Permission granted to photocopy for ministry purposes only David C Cook. Published by David C Cook. All rights reserved. Puppets Color (or invite children to color) the main characters on the Bible story coloring page. Glue the colored page to poster board. Cut around the figures and glue the characters to craft sticks. Give to the children to use as stick puppets. Individual Coloring Books Copy several Bible story coloring pages for each child in your class. Fold 11 x 17 construction paper in half, insert pages, and staple to make individual coloring books. Bible Story Puzzle Color and then glue a completed Bible story coloring page onto poster board. Cover with clear adhesive covering and cut into puzzle pieces. Place the puzzle pieces in a resealable plastic bag. Make several puzzles and offer them during transition times or to early arrivers. Parent Involvement Send home with children a copy of a Bible story coloring page with the story copied on the back. Include a note to encourage parents to read the Bible story while their child colors the page. Special Gift Give this book to children as a birthday, Christmas, or promotion gift! 2018 David C Cook. Pray and ask God to prepare the kids you know to understand and receive the good news about Jesus. Ask God to give you the sensitivity and wisdom to communicate effectively and to be aware as opportunities occur. When talking with children about salvation, use words and phrases they understand; never assume kids understand a concept just because they can repeat certain words. Avoid symbolic terms that will confuse literalminded thinkers. As you watch and pray, you will see kids developing relationships with God. Here are some questions you can ask and things you can discuss with a child who is interested in accepting Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Encourage the child to look up and read the Bible verses along with you. Read John 3:16. Why did God send Jesus to earth? (God loved us so much that He wants us to have eternal life with Him.) First John 3:1 says that God wants us to be His children. But sin, doing wrong, separates us from God. Read Romans 6:23. What do you think should happen to us when we sin? (die) But what is God s gift to us? (eternal life in Jesus) Jesus willingly died on the cross to take the punishment for our sins. Read 1 Corinthians 15:3. But Jesus didn t stay in the tomb. After three days, He came back to life! Jesus died so that we can live forever in heaven with Him. Are you sorry for the wrong things that you ve done? If you are, what should you do? Read 1 John 1:9. Our sins are wiped away when we re truly sorry for what we ve done and when we turn to God. Read Ephesians 2:8. How are we saved? (by God s grace, through faith) Christian faith is a life-long adventure here on earth. With Jesus as Lord of our lives, we build a life of submitting to God, following Jesus, and keeping in step with the Spirit. At this point, continue to talk with the child about accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior. Include what your church teaches about how this happens. If you have any questions about salvation, talk with your pastor or children s ministry leader. God wants every person to accept the free gift of eternal life that He s offering. What do you need to do about this? 10 David C Cook. Permission granted to photocopy for ministry purposes only David C Cook. Published by David C Cook. All rights reserved. Genesis 1:1 2:25 God Creates the World 2018 David C Cook. Published by David C Cook. All rights reserved. David C Cook. He said, Let there be light, and there was light! Then God made the sky and the land and the oceans. God made the plants and the sun, moon, and stars. He liked what He made. It was very good! Then God said, Let the sky be filled with birds that fly. And it was. He said, Let the waters be filled with all sorts of creatures. Then there were fish, dolphins, jellyfish, and many other creatures in the water. Next, God made every kind of animal. When God saw all the creatures He made, He said they were good. Then God did something even more special! He took some dirt and formed it into a man. Then God breathed into the man and he became alive. Next, God made a woman. They were the first people people like you and me. They were named Adam and Eve. God loved Adam and Eve. Everything God made was very good. 12 David C Cook. There were trees and plants with good food like apples, bananas, grapes, and watermelons. There were flowers and trees and plants that were beautiful to look at. In the middle of the garden was a tree called the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. God told Adam and Eve they could eat anything in the whole garden except the fruit that was growing on that one tree. One day, a serpent talked to Eve and told her to eat the forbidden fruit. If you eat some of that fruit, you would know things you didn t know before, the snake said. You would be like God. Eve listened to the serpent. She ate some of the fruit from the tree that God said not to eat from. Adam ate some too. God was very sad that they had disobeyed Him. Adam and Eve had to leave the beautiful garden, but God still loved them very much. 14 David C Cook. Permission granted to photocopy for ministry purposes only David C Cook. The boys learned how to do different kinds of jobs to help their family. Cain, the older brother, was a farmer. Abel, the younger brother, grew up to be a shepherd. Soon it was time to thank God for everything He had given to Adam and Eve s family. Cain brought an offering of some vegetables he had grown. Abel brought some of his sheep. Abel had given thanks to God by giving Him the best gift he could. God was happy with the offering Abel brought. But God was not pleased with Cain s offering. This made Cain angry. God told Cain to do what was right. Then his offering would please God. God said that if Cain didn t do what was right, more trouble would come. Cain didn t listen to God s warning and more trouble came. One day, when Cain and Abel were out in a field, Cain killed Abel. God called to Cain, Where is your brother Abel? Cain was angry and said to God, I don t know where he is. Do I have to take care of my brother all the time? God knew Cain had killed Abel. God told Cain he would have to leave his home and stop being a farmer. Cain s trouble came because he did not love and obey God. 16 David C Cook.
