Lesson 1 1.Importance of Prophecy - Matthew 24:36: A common view of end times is that it s not worth studying because there are so many views and interpretations of prophecy, including false dates given. - God didn t have His word written down to people, nor would He want so much of it to be left unstudied. (Christ spoke much about future events, ¼ of the Bible is prophecy). - If there s so much prophecy fulfilled, we can be sure the rest will be fulfilled also: Jesus virgin birth (Isa. 7:14), at Bethlehem (Mic. 5:2), called from Egypt (Hos. 11:1), sold for 30 pieces (Zech. 9:9), hands, feet pierced (Ps. 22:16), fall of Nineveh (Zeph. 2:13,14) and Babylon (Isa. 13:19) Matthew 24:36 No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 1.Importance of Prophecy - Matthew 24:36: A common view of end times is that it s not worth studying because there are so many DIFFERENT views and interpretations of prophecy, including false dates given. - God didn t have His word written down to people, nor would He want so much of it to be left unstudied. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage each other with these words. 2. Benefits of Prophecy B. Signs of the End Times - Matthew 16:1-3: 3: Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for not the clear signs that announced His first coming. We can assume He feels the same about His second coming also. - Matthew 24:6-14: 14: These general signs have existed for awhile now, but have also in the last century, possibly indicating that Christ s coming is even closer. - I Timothy. 4:1; 2 Timothy 3:1-5: 5: Another general sign is increased wickedness and the apostasy of so-called believers who turn away from the for other teachings and deny God s power. Matthew 16:1-3 The Pharisees and Sadducees came to Jesus and tested Him by asking Him to show them a sign from heaven. He replied, When evening comes, you say, 'It will be fair weather, for the sky is red, and in the morning, 'Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.' You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times. 3. Signs of the End Times - Matthew 16:1-3: 3: Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for not _RECOGNIZING_ the clear signs that announced His first coming. Matthew 24:6-14 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains. Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. 3. Signs of the End Times - Matthew 16:1-3: 3: Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for not _RECOGNIZING_ the clear signs that announced His first coming. We can assume He feels the same about His second coming also. - Matthew 24:6-14: 14: These general signs have existed for awhile now, but have also INCREASED in the last century, possibly indicating that Christ s coming is even closer. - I Timothy. 4:1; 2 Timothy 3:1-5: 5: Another general sign is increased wickedness and the apostasy of so-called believers who turn away from the for other teachings and deny God s power. I Timothy 4:1 The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. II Timothy 3:1-5 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them. 3. Signs of the End Times - Matthew 16:1-3: 3: Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for not _RECOGNIZING_ the clear signs that announced His first coming.
