Here, the trainers at R-Athletics discuss realistically the amount of timeand dedication that it takes to reach that highlevel in the sport.
  • 3. Competitive Gymnastics Training ExplainedTraining is best started early. Young beginnerswho wish to gain exposure to competitivegymnastics can enroll in a course in thefundamentals, like the Tiny Team program at R-Athletics. They learn the basics and buildfoundational skills that are critical to theirprogress in the sport. The time commitment isroughly three hours per week.
  • 4. Competitive Gymnastics Training ExplainedAnyone who has the skills to advance can moveup to Level 2 and Level 3 training, which is thefirst level of competitive gymnastics. Pupils aregiven the opportunity to participate in funmeets, or warm-ups for the more competitive,sanctioned meets at the higher levels. Everyoneat this level must commit six or seven hours aweek to training.
  • 5. Competitive Gymnastics Training ExplainedLevels 4-6 demand 9 to 12 hours per week toprepare for the meets sanctioned by USAGymnastics. Only the most dedicated gymnastsadvance to Levels 7-10, which require 16 to 23hours of training per week. Gymnasts at theselevels compete for prestigious scholarships andto qualify for Nationals.
