There is a choice of two engines, including a 170 PS unit, which is the most powerful dieselengine everin a Golf and capable of propelling it from 0 - 62 mph in just 8.2 seconds while returning excellent fuel economy. Neverbefore have enjoyment and economy been so close.  Introduction|Innovation & Safety|Design|Colours & Upholstery|Equipment|Engines|Technology|ServicePrint|Exit| 4 01 The twin-charged engine – comprising a mechanically-driven superchargerand exhaust-driven turbocharger– which work in tandem to eliminate turbo lagenabling the TSI engine to achievemaximum torque at both low revs andhigh speed. 02 The boost pressure dial within theinstrument panel in the dashboardassemblyinforms you how much powerthe TSI engine is generating. As with engine technology, so with safety. Volkswagen sets the standards that othersfollow. Which is whythe Golf GTis not only equipped with six airbags – two in the front, two front seat side airbags and curtainairbag system forfront and rearpassengers –but also offers two optional side airbags inthe rearshould you choose a five doormodel. Anumberof active safetyfeatures arealso fitted to help defuse critical situations before theyarise. These include an Electronic Stabilisation Programme (ESP)including Electronic Differential Lock (EDL) and Traction Control(ASR), plus an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with HydraulicBrake Assist (HBA). These systems detect critical situations at anearlystage and take action, forexample, byspecificallyadjustingthe engine’s poweroutput and braking individual wheels helpingto bring the vehicle undercontrol. Setting standards in technology.  With the 1.4 litre TSI 170 PS engine, Volkswagen has pushed technologyto new limits, developing the world’s first evertwin-charged FSI direct injectionpetrol engine. Achieving 0 - 62 mph in just 7.9seconds, with high torque delivering maximumpowerat both low revs and high speeds, it deliversdramatic performance. Yet returning 38.7 mpg on the Combined cycle, it also delivers exceptional fueleconomyand low CO 2 emissions of 174 g/km. It boasts350 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm while stillreturning 47.9 mpg on the Combined cycle  with a six speed manual gearbox. The secondvariant is a 2.0 TDI unit which delivers animpressive 140 PS and returns 51.4 mpg on the Combined cycle*. Raising levels of safety. 03 ESP, the sensor-controlled Electronic Stabilisation Programme, recognises critical driving situations and reacts in millisecondsbyreducing the engine’s output and controlling the speed of individual wheels. 04 The front seat side impact airbags provide protection forthedriverand front seat passengerin the event of a side collision.Optional side airbags forrearseat passengers can also bespecified on five doormodels. *Please see Environmental information sections forfuel consumption and CO 2 emissions figures. 01020304
